...to clear His threshing floor
"His winnowing fan is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather the wheat into His barn, but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire." ~ Luke 3:18
Sometimes we like to think that God will never really judge anyone. We buy into the idea that God is just this big, fluffy, marshmallow-sort of "nice guy," Whom, when all is said and done, will dust us off, give us a little "fist-punch," and say "Oh come on now--you silly goose, I'm not holding your sins against you!"
The Gospel is a wake-up call: God will indeed remember the transgressions of those who do not repent and receive forgiveness of their sins.
The "wheat" in this passage are those who repent; those who treat their neighbors (which means 'everyone') with love, mercy, and generosity. The chaff are those who focus their love, mercy, and generosity on themselves. They will indeed receive a fitting recompense.
Amen, Lord Jesus! Come Quickly!
