Dear Good People of Ss. Peter & Paul Parish

Next weekend we celebrate the source and summit of our Catholic Faith; The Most Holy Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This feast is so important that the Catholic Church named it a solemnity back in the middle ages, to combat a heresy. This heresy found some protestants saying that the Catholic Church invented the idea that the priest consecrating the bread and wine at Holy Mass, transforms the Bread and Wine into the real, true, and substantial presence of the body, blood , soul, and divinity of the Risen Christ. We call that transformation (Transubstantiation). Self-identifying Catholics who do not believe in this doctrine of faith are not Truly catholic.

Friends, I write this article with a heavy heart, especially after hearing Bishop Ricken last week Tuesday, at the annual Leadership day, give us some shocking survey responses from Catholics in our own diocese. He said, a response from a recent survey, held earlier this year in the Green bay diocese, reveals that 54% of the Catholics surveyed do not believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. And, that's just in our diocese; nationally its almost 70%.

In ages past these people who publicly said this were labeled heretics; today we call them dissenters. The Church views them as not practicing (in-name-only) Catholics.  This is what prompted me to write this article on the very weekend of Corpus Christi; to awaken all of us to study the doctrines of our Catholic Faith. During this upcoming July and August, every weekend, we will reflect on the True meaning of the Holy Eucharist.

This will begin our parish journey with Jesus in the Eucharist and in our parish community. I hope also to have an ongoing adult study of the catholic faith every week come  Fall through Winter. I invite you
do  some personal summer study, and/or reading on the catholic view and beliefs in the sacraments.

Libraries and online sources have numerous articles on our beautiful Catholic faith; just make sure what you read or study is authentically Catholic.  Green Bay Diocese, USCCB, EWTN and  Catholic Answers, all have very clear and solid information for personal study.

Friends, I believe our eternal destiny depends on understanding what the Church teaches on the Eucharist, believing it with our whole mind and soul, and teaching these truths to others. That's what the New Evangelization is really all about.

Remember, don't be ashamed to call ourselves ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH. And, do not shrink from the FACT that: THE FOUNDER OF THIS CHURCH IS JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF, Who established it on the Apostles, with St. Peter as its head.

God bless all of you as we journey from Spring to Summer. Please don't forget your parish; we need your financial and prayerful support all through the year.

Have a Safe Spring & Summer, and Enjoy the Outdoors!

Peace & Good,

Fr. Tony Cirignani, O.F.M.
