CORRECTION & RETRACTION

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Green Bay,

Our Pastor, Fr. Anthony Cirignani, O.F.M., did not know about, and DOES NOT ENDORSE the false, misleading, and overtly political comments made in the context of the homilies given this weekend, by a visiting priest, during the Masses offered in English.

Nowhere in the Teaching of the Catholic Church is there to be found a moral equivalence between the intrinsic evil of abortion and the non-acceptance of the theory of Climate Change.

Nowhere in the Teaching of the Catholic Church is there to be found any statement supporting an idea that the non-acceptance of the theory of Climate Change is an evil of equal or greater gravity than the evil of abortion.

Nowhere in the Teaching of the Catholic Church is there to be found an infallible statement that aborted babies are martyrs and therefore saints. One is free to believe such, but it is not -- as was implied in the homilies -- a defined teaching.

Much less is it to be found in the Teaching of the Catholic Church that it is somehow less evil to have babies aborted and promoted to sainthood, than to refuse to accept the theory of Climate Change (thus "killing Mother Earth") -- as was also implied in these homilies.

The sinful gravity arising from the intrinsic evil of abortion is NOT proportionately outweighed by any damage done to "Mother Earth" and the environment -- nor by the non-acceptance of the theory of Climate Change, despite the contrary implication proposed in these homilies.

Finally, His Holiness Pope Francis has NOT in any way bound the faithful, by virtue of his apostolic authority, to accept the theory of Climate Change. While the Holy Father has explained that we are duty bound to exercise good stewardship over creation, which certainly includes reasonable efforts to preserve the blessings of creation for future generations, he has NOT bound us to the acceptance of particular theories, concepts, or policies in this regard, and he most certainly has NOT placed the care of the environment on a level of greater importance than the protection of life in the womb.
